This inventory identifies most of each township’s obvious barbed tributaries and elbows of capture as seen on 1:24,000-scale United States Geological Survey topographic maps, but should not be regarded as being complete. Also many of the barbed tributaries and elbows of capture are best seen and understood by observing the evidence in an area much larger than the listed township.
Bedminster Township
- Tohickon Creek flows in a northeast direction and then turns to flow in a southeast and east direction to join the south oriented Delaware River.
- The southeast oriented Tohickon Creek segment has several northeast oriented tributaries including Deer Run, Wolf Run, Deep Run, and Cabin Run.
Bensalem Township
- Neshaminy Creek flows in a south, northeast, southeast, and south direction along the township borders and eventually joins the southwest oriented Delaware River.
Bridgeton Township
- The Delaware River turns from flowing in a northeast direction to flow in a southeast direction.
- Several short north oriented tributaries drain to the Delaware River as it makes its turn from a northeast direction to a southeast direction.
Bristol Township
- The Delaware River turns from flowing in a northwest direction along the Falls Township south border to flow in a south-southwest and then southwest direction along the Bristol Township south border.
Buckingham Township
- Pidcock Creek flows in a northeast, south-southeast, northeast, south, and northeast direction to join the southeast oriented Delaware River and has several significant north and northeast oriented tributaries.
- Watson Creek flows in a south-southeast, and northeast direction to join southeast and south oriented Mill Creek.
- Lahaska Creek flows in a southwest direction to join southeast and south oriented Mill Creek, which then joins southeast and south oriented Neshaminy Creek.
Doylestown Township
- Cooks Run and other shorter streams flow in southwest directions to join east oriented Neshaminy Creek.
- Neshaminy Creek changes direction repeatedly in what appear to be large entrenched meanders.
Durham Township
- Cooks Creek flows in a north and northeast direction before turning to flow in a south and southeast direction to join the south-oriented Delaware River. The northeast oriented Cooks Creek segment has two south oriented tributaries.
- An unnamed northeast oriented stream joins the southeast oriented Delaware River at Monroe.
East Rockhill Township
- A north oriented stream flows from near Rockhill Station to join northeast and south oriented Tohickon Creek, which after leaving East Rockhill Township turns northeast, southeast, and east to join the south oriented Delaware River.
- Threemile Run flows in a northeast direction to join south oriented Tohickon Creek at the point where Tohickon Creek turns to flow in a northeast direction, with Tohickon Creek turning in Bedminster Township to flow in a southeast and east direction to reach the south oriented Delaware River.
Falls Township
- The Delaware River flows in a south-southeast, southwest, and northwest direction along the Falls Township east and south borders and then continues in a south-southwest and southwest direction along the Bristol Township south border.
Haycock Township
- Haycock Creek flows in a north and then southeast and south direction as it flows around Haycock Mountain to reach the Tohickon elbow where Tohickon Creek turns from flowing in a northeast direction to flow in a southeast direction.
- A south-southeast oriented stream just west of Haycock Mountain flows to the northeast oriented Tohickon Creek valley.
- Tohickon Creek flows in a northeast, south, northeast, and southeast direction as it exits the Quakertown basin and crosses the township
- Dimple Creek flows in a south direction to join a south oriented Tohickon Creek segment, which then turns to flow in a northeast direction.
Hilltown Township
- A south oriented tributary to east-northeast oriented West Branch Neshaminy Creek begins by flowing in a southwest direction.
- Pleasant Spring Creek flows in a north-northwest, northeast, and northwest direction to join southwest oriented East Branch Perkiomen Creek.
- Mill Creek flows in a north direction to join southwest oriented East Branch Perkiomen Creek and has northeast, northwest, and west oriented tributaries.
Lower Makefield Township
- Brock Creek flows in a northeast direction to join the southeast oriented Delaware River at Yardley as a barbed tributary.
Lower Southampton Township
- South oriented intermittent stream flowing through the Somerton Springs Country Club area turns to flow in an east direction to join south oriented Poquessing Creek, which in turn flows to the southwest oriented Delaware River.
Middletown Township
- Neshaminy Creek flows in a south-southeast, west-southwest, south, northeast, and southeast direction as it flows through the township.
Milford Township
- A south oriented Unami Creek tributary just west of Quakertown turns sharply in a west direction to join south oriented Unami Creek.
New Britain Township
- Southwest oriented North Branch Neshaminy Creek and Pine Run join east-northeast oriented West Branch Neshaminy Creek to form east, southeast, and south oriented Neshaminy, which eventually joins the southwest oriented Delaware River.
Newtown Township
- Core Creek flows in a southeast, southwest, south, and southwest direction to join a southeast oriented Neshaminy Creek segment shortly before Neshaminy Creek turn to flow in a west-southwest, south, and east-northeast direction.
Nockamixon Township
- The Delaware River flows in a south direction to near Kintnersville and then turns in a northeast direction.
- Gallows Run flows in a southeast, northeast and north direction to join the Delaware River at the bottom of the “U” where the Delaware turns from flowing in a south direction to flow in a northeast direction.
- The southeast oriented Gallows Run headwaters have southwest and northeast oriented tributaries.
Northampton Township
- Mill Creek flows in a south-southeast direction before turning in an east-northeast direction to join south oriented Neshaminy Creek.
- Ironworks Creek flows in a south direction to join east-northeast oriented Mill Creek, which then joins south oriented Neshaminy Creek.
- Neshaminy Creek flows in a south-southeast direction, turns in a west-southwest direction and then turns in a south direction.
- Pine Run flows in a south, east, and south direction to join the west-southwest oriented Neshaminy Creek segment.
Plumstead Township
- Gedies Run, Hickory Run, and other streams flow in northeast directions to join the south and southeast oriented Delaware River.
- Several short southeast oriented tributaries flow to southwest oriented North Branch Neshaminy Creek, which in New Britain Township joins east oriented Neshaminy Creek.
Richland Township
- Tohickon Creek flows in a south-southeast direction to a point east of Quakertown where it is joined by north-northeast oriented Morgan Creek, a south-southwest tributary, and east, northeast, and east oriented Beaver. Next Tohickon Creek turns in a northeast, southeast, northeast, and then south-southeast direction as it flows through a water gap cut in the diabase ridge to reach the northeast oriented Threemile Run valley where Tohickon Creek turns again to flow in a northeast direction (in Lake Nockamixon) until eventually turning in a southeast and east direction to reach the south oriented Delaware River.
Solebury Township
- Dark Hollow Run, Rabbit Run and other streams flow in northeast directions to join the south-southeast oriented Delaware River as barbed tributaries.
- The Delaware River flows in a southeast, east-northeast, east-southeast, and south-southeast direction along the Solebury Township north and east border.
- Several northeast oriented tributaries join the east-southeast oriented Delaware River segment.
- A north oriented tributary joins the east-northeast Delaware River segment.
- Paunnacussing Creek flows in a north and northeast direction to join the southeast oriented Delaware River segment and has a significant northwest oriented tributary.
Springfield Township
- Cooks Creek originates as a southeast, north-northeast and north oriented stream before turning in a northeast direction to eventually join the south oriented Delaware River.
- The north-northeast and north oriented Cooks Creek segments have southeast oriented tributaries.
- A northwest oriented tributary flows from the Bursonville area to join north oriented Cooks Creek before it turning in a northeast direction in Bedminster Township.
- Tohickon Creek headwaters originate as south-southeast oriented streams in Springfield Township before flowing across Richland Township to reach the northeast oriented Threemile Run-Tohickon Creek valley.
Tinicum Township
- Tinicum Creek is formed at the confluence of two south oriented tributaries and then flows in a southeast direction before turning in a northeast direction to join the south oriented Delaware River.
- An unnamed stream near Sundale flows in a northeast direction before turning in a southeast direction to join Tinicum Creek and then the south oriented Delaware River.
- South of Tinicum Creek two shorter streams flow in northeast directions to join the south oriented Delaware River.
- A north-northwest and a south oriented tributary join Tinicum Creek near the point where Tinicum Creek turns from flowing in a southeast direction to flow in a northeast direction.
Upper Makefield Township
- Jericho Creek and other streams turn in northeast and north directions to join the southeast oriented Delaware River as barbed tributaries.
Upper Southampton Township
- Mill Creek flows in a south-southeast direction before turning in an east-northeast direction to join south oriented Neshaminy Creek.
Warminster Township
- A north oriented tributary joins east and northeast oriented Little Neshaminy Creek near the sewage treatment plant. Little Neshaminy Creek in Northampton Township joins southeast and south oriented Neshaminy Creek, which flows to the southwest oriented Delaware River.
Warrington Township
- A northwest, north, and northwest oriented tributary joins northeast oriented Mill Creek at Tradesville. Mill Creek then joins Neshaminy Creek at the south end of what appears to be a large southeast and north oriented entrenched meander, although Neshaminy Creek further downstream turns to flow in a southeast and south direction to eventually join the southwest oriented Delaware River.
Warwick Township
- A north oriented stream flows to east and southeast oriented Little Neshaminy Creek.
- Little Neshaminy Creek flows in a northeast and then southeast direction near the township north border.
West Rockhill Township
- Ridge Valley Creek flows in a west, north, and west direction before entering Montgomery County where it turns to flow in a south and southwest direction to join south and southwest oriented Unami Creek.
Wrightstown Township
- A west-northwest oriented stream joins south oriented Mill Creek at Wycombe, with Mill Creek then joining southeast and south-southeast oriented Neshaminy Creek, which next turns in a west-southwest direction and the makes additional direction changes before joining the southwest oriented Delaware River.
- North oriented tributaries flow to east, northeast, and north oriented Jericho Creek, which joins the southeast-oriented Delaware River in Upper Makefield Township.
